I had a dream last night that broke the surface
and you turned and touched my cheek and went on sleeping.
Our midnight well-known bed was filled with silence
of passing cars and airplanes overhead.
I want to reach through barriers of skin
and continents of bone to touch the sparks
that leap from joint to joint: electric code
my fingers can’t decipher.
