How to Prepare for Bad News
First, ochre your fingertips, and quaff helium.
For levity. Puff out any surplus gas to flame;
scrape off residue with a two inch blade,
as if scratching the seeds from a lotus
with antler-bone. Tighten the strings
around the hollow belly of a Steinway,
ribbed ivory clinking to Winterreise.
Muffle the extractor fan and husk
into your receiver: Sing to me of prikaza,
messenger. Got all that? Now I tell you.
