Longlisted Poem 2015

Annie Simm

Blossom baby, boughing,
bud of mother’s, tighter pinch
swept the wind’s flossing finger
summer’s passing; flinch
the dribble on your buttons
dewed from seedling throat,
a lisp, sealed in anxious spring
smears, sticky on your barky coat.
Ponder paternity, alpha:
passing time, Oaky balm,
copper, Avocado pendent,
flutter frail foetal arm.
Bulging little fitting things,
captive circles stark,
cradle and wait and contemplate;
the sun is slipping dark.
Hushed, shiver and finalise,
threading bonds, taking flight
Moss, mushrooms, marvel and magic,
translucent cells,
in the moon’s sprinkled light.
