Longlisted Poem 2015

Charlotte Griffiths

Hellesdon High School, Norwich, Norfolk

Hadley

A breath in,
A breath out,

As the trade winds stir
And give motion to the silence;

As a heavy warmth is lifted
And cold sweeps the waves,
Plucking heat from their crests.

Aloft, an anvil shadow casts
In the path of a storm
Over creaking masts,

And the weather is descending;

A breath in,
A breath out,

The silence is broken.
