Longlisted Poem 2014

Zoe Buckton

The Priory Academy LSST, Lincoln

The Craftsman

Reminiscent of a blank canvas;
Helpless to his pusillanimity.

To fill in the gaps,
To connect the dots.
Mess was inevitable,
So he used it.
Painted learning curves with
A palette-full of experience,
A clutter of inconsistent paint
And intangible outlines.
He chiselled at his troubles,
Carved his own mould.
Sculpted himself above the dust.
An abstract masterpiece.
