Tower Poetry Summer School 2018
On 28 – 31 August 2018 the eleventh Tower Poetry Summer School for young poets was held in Christ Church, Oxford. The Summer School is a residential school where poets aged 18-23 are invited to develop writing and critical skills through a series of exciting and challenging workshop.
The tutors were Stephen Romer and Andrew Wynn Owen. Stephen Romer is a translator of French poetry and has published four full collections of poetry, including Yellow Studio (2008) which was shortlisted for the 2008 T.S. Eliot Prize. His most recent book is Set Thy Love in Order: New and Selected Poems.
Andrew Wynn Owen received an Eric Gregory Award in 2015 and Oxford’s Newdigate prize in 2014, as well as being longlisted in the 2011 Tower Poetry Competition. His debut volume, The Multiverse, is published in May, 2018.
The guest readers this year were Olivia McCannon and Rebecca Watts, who gave readings on two separate evenings during the week, and the tutors gave a reading on the last evening.
Over the next few months, the students’ work from the Summer School will be collected and selected poems will be published in a poetry pamphlet in 2019 (the 2016 collection is Flowers From the Dark).
The next Summer School will be held in 2020.
